Below you'll find two versions of draft statements about the Aim of Practical and Applied Arts in Saskatchewan. The purpose of the Aim is to have a short statement that encompasses the main idea of what students will accomplish by taking these courses. In Ministry terms the Aim is the "philosophical rationale for the subject area". Please provide feedback in terms of comments and/or suggested changes. I would like to finalize the Aim at the next meeting on February 5, 2010.

Through exploring and experiencing Practical and Applied Arts all students will acquire and apply theory to demonstrate practical skills and understanding in context.

All students will acquire and apply theory to demonstrate practical skills and understanding through exploring and experiencing Practical and Applied Arts in context.

In February, we also discussed changing the whole tone of the Aim to something like the following:

The Aim of PAA is to provide life skills to prepare students to participate as family members, community members, citizens, consumers, and producers in Canadian society.

We came to agreement of the message needed for the Aim of the Practical and Applied Arts at the meeting on the 22nd.
Through exploring and experiencing Practical and Applied Arts all students will acquire and apply theory to demonstrate practical skills and understanding in context. The Aim of PAA is to provide life skills to prepare students to participate as family members, community members, citizens, consumers, and producers in Canadian society.
I would invite all Reference Committee members to comment on this work and wording.
